Author Guidelines

1. Manuscript Types

Jari Basa accepts original manuscripts in the form of empirical research articles or literature-based analyses that make substantial contributions to the fields of language and literature education. Submissions should present new insights, theories, methodologies, or practices relevant to these areas.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically via the Jari Basa online submission system. The corresponding author must include a declaration stating that the manuscript is not currently under review or being considered for publication elsewhere. Submissions that do not meet these requirements will not be processed.

2. Manuscript Structure

Title

The title should be concise, informative, and engaging, containing no more than 14 words.

Author Details

Include full names (without academic titles), institutional affiliations, and email addresses. For co-authored papers, clearly indicate the corresponding author.

Abstract and Keywords

The abstract should be written in English and consist of 150–200 words, followed by 3–5 keywords. The abstract should summarize the study’s purpose, methods, main findings, and implications.

Introduction

This section outlines the background, literature review, research gap, objectives, and significance of the study. It should highlight the novelty and relevance of the work.

Methods

Describe the research design, data collection procedures, and methods of analysis. Ensure transparency and reproducibility.

Results and Discussion

Present findings clearly and concisely. Discuss the implications of your results by relating them to relevant theories or previous studies. Emphasize the contribution to knowledge in language or literature education.

Conclusion

Summarize key findings and provide theoretical, practical, or pedagogical implications. Ensure the conclusion is based on the discussion.

References

Use approximately 20–25 relevant and up-to-date references (from the last 10 years, minimum 80%). Key foundational references are allowed. Follow APA (7th edition) citation and referencing style. Only cite works that appear in the reference list and vice versa. The use of reference management tools such as Mendeley is encouraged

3. General Formatting Guidelines

  • Manuscripts should be written in English or Indonesia, on A4-sized paper, single-sided, single line spacing.
  • Use Times New Roman, 12 pt font.
  • Manuscripts should be 5,000–8,000 words or 12–15 pages in length.
  • Margins: 1.5 inches (top and bottom).
  • Indent new paragraphs by five characters from the left margin.
  • Titles: Capitalize the first word and proper nouns only; font size 14, centered.
  • Subheadings: Capitalize only the first word and proper nouns; font size 11, left-aligned.
  • Lower-level headings: Follow a logical hierarchy and apply italics only for sub-sub-subtitles.

 

4. Tables, Figures, and Equations

  • Number all tables and figures using Arabic numerals (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1).
  • Place titles above tables and below figures.
  • Include data sources at the bottom of tables/figures.
  • Tables should avoid vertical lines; only use horizontal lines for headers and rows.
  • Equations must be numbered (e.g., (1), (2)) and aligned to the right.
  • Output from software packages should be presented in summarized tables, not screenshots or raw exports.

 

5. Acknowledgments

Any acknowledgments (e.g., funding, institutional support) should be written as a footnote to the title on the first page.

 

6. Index Terms and Author Index

Authors must provide:

  • Subject Index: Specific terms central to the article.
  • Author Index: Surnames of key scholars cited, written as "Surname, Given Name."

 

7. In-Text Citations

Follow APA 7th edition citation style. Examples:

  • Hill (2001) argues that ...
  • The policy was ineffective (McCain, 1982).
  • Some definitions include ... (Wagner, 1976; Rhonda, 2009).

 

8. Manuscript Submission

Prepare your manuscript using the Jari Basa template (available on our website). Submit via the Online Submission tab on the journal website. During registration, include a brief bio (full name, academic title, affiliation, phone number, etc.) in the designated fields.

 

9. Review and Decision Process

All submissions undergo a peer-review process. Based on reviewer recommendations, the editor will issue one of the following decisions:

  1. Accepted without revision
  2. Accepted with minor revision
  3. Accepted with major revision
  4. Rejected

10. Copyright and Open Access

Jari Basa operates under an open-access policy. Authors retain full copyright and publishing rights without restrictions. Articles may be archived in open-access repositories with proper acknowledgment of initial publication in this journal.
