Abstract

Diplomacy is an art to prioritize interests in maintaining relations with other countries. One way that can be taken is through cultural diplomacy through culinary arts. This diplomacy is included in the type of soft diplomacy which is considered the most effective in achieving the interests of a country because its implementation is carried out peacefully without any element of coercion. Soft diplomacy is the ability to get what we want through attraction rather than coercion (Joseph S. Nye: 2006). The research method is qualitative. How Japan and Indonesia have diplomacy through their special foods, namely sushi and rendang, is the point in this article. The results of this study are: 1) introducing each other's culinary culture, namely sushi and rendang, 2) influencing public opinion, 3) avoiding conflict, 4) instilling mutual trust, 4) saving the nation's assets, 5) being able to love culture more.
