Abstract

Geopolymer concrete is one of the innovations in alternative environmentally conscious concrete production by using coal-burning industrial waste (PLTU) as a cement substitute. Cement is the main binder in making concrete, but fly ash is used as a substitute. Fly ash is an alkaline solution that is used as an activator for the polymerization reaction of alumina (Al) and silica (Si) contained in fly ash. The alkali activator compound used is sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) at a certain temperature to form a mixture of materials that has cement-like properties. This is what made researchers try to carry out experimental studies on making geopolymer concrete using cement substitute materials. The cement replacement uses fly ash (industrial waste) produced from the Teluk Sirih PLTU, Padang City, by adding VZ plastic sika to increase the strength and quality of the concrete. This research aims to carry out tests to obtain the results of the effect of using Sika plastiment VZ on the compressive strength and quality values of fly ash-based geopolymer concrete with an alkaline activator solution. The research results showed that the compressive strength value of this geopolymer concrete with a concentration of 8M NaOH without using VZ plastiment was 6.75 MPa, whereas using VZ plastiment with a dose variation of 0.2% was 5.46 MPa, with a dose variation of 0.3% of 5.07 MPa and a variation of 0.4% of 4.94 MPa. Geopolymer concrete without using VZ plastiment sika has a higher compressive strength than using Sika Plastiment VZ.
